soccer bets again
i love the world cup. it's so much fun to watch it. much more fun than the Olympics, even though we are watching some foreign team and not some china ppl helping s'pore to win a hopelessly impossible gold medal in table tennis. it's fun especially when u're watching it wid a huge group.
went to my grandma/aunt's house last sat for the usual family gathering. i didn't noe that they were so crazy bout world cup, till i saw their digital cable set. they actually subscribe to digital cable just for the world cup. and oh man, it rocks. so many channels and so many options. like while watching the match between Portugal and Iran, there are actually options on the tv to let u see multi angle view, like close-up on individual players or aerial view for u to see their formation super obviously, and there are analysis on the match like percentage of possession, no. of shots on/off target and no. of corners. too bad the others don't like it coz they make so much noise when i tried it. wasted...
anyway, there was this bet going on bout the final score for that game. the 2 youngest cousin bet 1-0 while the other 3 older ones (me included) bet that it'll be 2-0. the 1st half was super boring coz no one scored. but can see that the portugal team was the better team coz they had the iran players scrambling their ass off to chase them down. then came the 2nd half when Deco scored the 1st goal. so it was 1-0. the younger ones have it - for now.
after that some iran player tripped dear jolly old Figo at the penalty box. poor thing. so there was a penalty kick, which was taken by Christiano Ronaldo. oh, speaking of him, he is unbelievably gorgeous. seriously, i tot he looked good in Man U but he is such a hotbod in this world cup. he is on again this wed [which happens to be a very special day :) ]
anyway, back from digressing, that penalty kick reminds me of the one that sealed our victory during the SA match at SRJC just a little more than a month ago. some SA girl smashed right into jing jing and our precious penalty kick was well-taken by steph. well, that's all we need for the win :) damn i miss soccer.
oh, so the kick went in and the score was 2-0. yeah man! we're so gonna win the bet. then at the 94+ min, christiano scored again. damn! but it was ruled offside. the image of the referee holding his flag out really makes us happy. coz for that few seconds between the point when he score and the image was filled with one of the cousins going, "yes! 3-0!" needless to say, he was part of the 1-0 gang.
so the final score is 2-0. Great! they so gonna owe us an ice-cream treat.
just one last point. Tridadad and Tobago has a population of 1 million plus ppl. and they make it to the world cup stage. Singapore has a population of 4 milion plus and the only ways we're involve in the world cup is when some referee sent off 2 guys in a row (which they make a very big thing out of it, like we actually made it to Germany) and 3 puny kids won the Macdonald contest to
la la shou with the players (big deal!). maybe the government shld consider rowing puny singapore over to south america or europe so that hopefully some of the dust from their talents will fall onto us. or they can cancel all freaking stupid common test and we can actually enjoy the holidays.
