one week for many highs
that's right! last week is so filled will so many events
tuesday: James Blunt All The Lost Souls Tour
rush down to kallang to catch the james blunt concert with kb. he is an awesome performer and the concert was a blast! he sounds as gd as, if not, better than, wad we hear over the radio. really worth the $100 tic that we paid for, plus the seats were gd. it was almost full house with more than half the audience being ang mohs and 90% of them older than me. songs really sound best live, esp those of such gifted artiste like james blunt. my fav of the night was the piano version of "goodbye my lover", it was well sung with much passion and emotions. the best part was when he just played the piano and the audience get to sing the chorus of that song. that's when the indoor stadium really resonated in a single tune as the audience sang to the lyrics that every fan knew. i could hear the audience singing for his other hits like "1973" and "you're beautiful". that, i guess, is why artistes love to perform live.
he has a great sense of humour too. as of all english ppl that i noe. haha! he wrote this in his tour book, "another person that you might see creeping around on stage, is brian, who insists on handling me a new guitar every song. why this happens, i just don't know. i think he just likes being on stage. also, brian's son, Hamish, will be there trying to keep the drums on their little stage while karl tries to push them off. other than that, you'll probably see glen doing the lights, and my grandfather, mike, who's controlling the sound desk. he's totally deaf and quite senile. fortunately, he is only pretending to adjust the sound. it's all done automatically." (!!!)
it's true. there was really a guy that passes him a guitar after every song and he is credited as the "guitar technician". the drum guy is known as the "drums technician". but i love him best when he's on the piano! =) then after that was prata supper at simpang bedok. super sinful. haha!
that's him! that's him!

Super blur pic but i like the shimmery backdrop.
kb and i =)
tuesday: VJSG finals at jalan bersah stadium. 1-1 after extra time. VJ WON 6-5 ON PENALTIES.
a quote from vjsg facebook grp bout the seniors coming down to support the girls, "It was a great testament to the strength, family and love that every member of VJSG has". so almost all the seniors (less those who really cannot make it) troop down to the grand stands of JBS to witness yet another nail-biting finals against our traditional rivals SAJC. it was history revisited but the outcome was flipped, albeit taking a long time.
it was exhilerating to hear the deafening cheers of huge vj crowd. a concert without an audience will just be a rehearsal, a cheerleading performance without a crowd will just be a dry-run. Similarly, a match without supporters will just be a training session.
but the stars of the match, all 20+ of them, played their hearts out and that is all that is what we are proud of, no matter the results (of coz winning is definitely a big plus). i would agree that penalty is a lousy way to decide the outcome, but someone has to lose somehow. i'm just glad the title is brought back hm =)
and there was a short tribute to the seniors esp the 05/06 batch. and for the few mins that coach az talked bout our humble beginnings and our miraculous rise to the top, i think the seniors (those wearing the
slightly older jersey's) were reflecting the various moments in the memorable 2 yrs in VJSG. i dono y, i was thinking bout this training in 2005 when we had to run intervals around the school coz it was raining. then coach said something bout having to persevere past all the obstacles that we had. i'm glad we did and the juniors that came after that was truely a reflection of us (plus they are so much more pro)
VJSG is more than just another cca. no matter which batch we come from, no matter what story you have on ur journey to the gold, all you need in VJSG is
just heart. =D
p/s they were featured (big big summore) on both the chi and eng papers!!
family line: mentor>mentee>grandmentee>great grandmentee. It just gets smaller every generation. (by eileen)

warm up in the middle of the astroturf
pre match huddle+talk

i tot this shot was quite cool (coz i took it.wahaha!) but can't beat the nice pics on jolyn's flickr
thurs, fri and sat were for meeting up with frens from sec sch, jc and uni. sigh, haven get pay yet and i'm spending so much.
then sun was spent cycling and milling around ECP for bike rally. quite a waste of time coz it's the dry-run, hopefully the real thing will be better. the cycling track from ECP to changi runs along the airport runway! i can probably sit there for a long time and watch planes take off and land. haha!
lastly, monday evening was spent watching the s'pore short film finalists at a very ulu place behind PS. apparantly it was the formal site of MGS, so the place is aptly called "old school". it really looks like a little quiet haven just behind a city. the films were not bad, but some were a little hard to understand, probably for the artsy-fartsy ppl to ponder bout. i like the films that were about the average s'porean that we see everyday.
