When we were young, we all thought of what we want to be in the future. The job description is mostly limited to the one-word job titles. When we were studying, we all thought about the things that we want to do in our desired job and our ideal career paths. The amount of details increases as we study more into the field and/or speak to ppl in the field. It's only when I start full-time work that it hit me what a long road this 'career' thing is. And it's a bloody long road! Before, the goal with the longest term never stretches longer than half a decade (for me la). Right now, a long term goal is more like half a century later. Gosh! Making the journey longer is the need to spend 50+ hours per week at one's workplace. No wonder it's so important to build a good social circle at the workplace and maintain the ones that I have outside work.
Speaking of which, taking the effort to meet up with friends is so worth it. Yeah work life balance is a myth, but that doesn't mean we don't try to balance the scale at all. And having spending power now definitely rocks when it comes to getting the much needed dose of retail therapy and indulging in new food finds.
Oh well, pretty random rambling post. All part of my transition phase from student to working adult.
update: This week is NTU's 1st week of sch and it hit me so hard how much I miss sch. I miss hanging out with awesome coarse mates all day, the feeling of walking down the corridors, hanging out in the cool respite of the FAL, the project discussions that can last late into the night, the constant barrage of emails with the latest reports and powerpoint presentations attached, people watching during the break times and the general buzz around school. Of coz, there used to be hall, but I have already missed it enough during yr 3 sem 1. It's a cycle every semester - planning of the time-table using STARS, 1st few weeks of slacking, then slowly getting the engine started, then recess week, then non-stop chionging to meet deadlines, then exams - but it never gets old and boring huh. That's the irony of human beings, I said I can't wait to start work, but now I'm whining bout how much I miss NBS. It's a bittersweet feeling of reminiscing the good ol' times. Sigh!
